We know from hot dog history that in 1902 a ice cream vendor named Harry Mozley Stevens was trying to sell his frozen treats at a New York Giants game at the New York Polo grounds. The problem was that the weather was cold! He put on this thinking cap and had his employees go get all the dachshund sausages and rolls they could lay their hands on. They heated those babies in boiling water and the legend of  “Get em while they’re hot!” was born. Necessity is after all the mother of invention.

Today you can even get veggie dogs and veggie sausages for vegetarians who choose to eat meatless. These “hot dogs” may not be the real thing but they are flavorful and tasty as well as healthy, you don’t have to feel like you missing out on what continues to be one of America’s favorite foods, the hot dog.
